Time 2008/07/14 23:48
Time just seems so tight at times. We don’t have time to do anything anymore. Work possesses most of that time, then with organized sports, and the very little family time we spend with our families, then it’s off to bed so we can start it all over again. Is that what our lives have become, busy, busy, busy? We have no time for ourselves so how in the world are we to make time for anyone else? Let’s break down the time for ourselves.

There are 7 days in a week.

There are 24 hours in a day.

So we have 168 hours a week that we live.

So let’s take at least 7 hours of sleep a day. That gives us 49 hours a week of sleep. So we are left with 119 waking hours a week.

Most of us work at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. That gives us 40 hours. We are now left with 79 hours a week that isn’t spent sleeping or working. So what to do with the remaining amount. I could go through the many different things each person in this world loves to do but I think I’ll go another way.

Most of us give a tenth of what we make. Now I’m sure this tenth is taken out for the Lord after we factor in our deductions (taxes, medical care, savings plan, etc). Well let’s apply that thought to this as well. What we give to the Lord is much greater than just the money we possess. If you were to take 10% of the remaining hours of your week (80 hours), then that would be 8 hours. That is 8 hours that you give to the lord. Now if you factor out of that time church gatherings then most of us still have 4 hours left in a week to spend with the Lord. Now this time can be spent in so many ways and I’m sure there are a few that spend more than 8 hours with the Lord on a weekly basis.

However I believe that a bigger number of us don’t even come close to spending 8 hours a week with the Lord. We might go to Sunday morning Bible class on some days and then of course we are there for Sunday worship but by Sunday night I have to prepare for my week. Then by hump day (Wednesday) I’m exhausted from a busy week. I mean I have to take the kids here and there, and then travel to and from work, not to mention the work I bring home, etc, etc. I’m sure we all have our excuses but let’s be honest, is at least 8 hours all that much to give to God; after all He is giving us 70 hours a week for ourselves in this example. He is granting us the opportunity to live eternally with him and in return he just wants our hearts and minds to be on Him. What are we to do?

I’m writing this because I’m just as guilty as the next of not spending enough time with God, but I realize my short-comings. I challenge those that read this to spend at least 8 hours with God in prayer, bible reading, helping others, teaching others, or anyway that you can and have the ability to do it. It’s not as difficult as it sounds; sometimes you just HAVE to do it.

I wish you well this week.
